Here is the trailer for my new film ‘Where the grass don’t grow’. It is an experimental documentary about salt lake racing in Australia.
I had seen this film in my head and dreams for years, waiting to make it a reality. It is now very much real and finished and even more than the film I dreamed of.
@williamforsyth_ and I drove 3000k with a car packed so full of supplies, film and otherwise, that my suspension has decided that it too is finished.
Out on the lake time ceases to exist. Hundreds of ks from the nearest town, phone tower or pub we simply sat and watched the sun make its blazing path across the sky each day.
The people spoke of speed like a deity to both fear and fight. Sometimes the lucky ones spoke of it as a spirit who had shown them the other side.
I couldn’t be more grateful to the people who poured so much of themselves into this project.
A special thanks to @williamforsyth_ who picked up my call, game for anything, and a couple weeks later found himself on the verge of heatstroke after operating handheld in 45° heat whilst I was perched on a long lens 3ks away, safe under the shade of my car boot.
Another note to thank @alex_albrecht_music - his understanding of the emotion, the environment and the energy of each section of the film, and how that was converted into a score truly amazes me each time I listen to the music he created. Thanks.
